Dead Sea

Within the depths of the Jordan valley lies, 55km southeast of the capital lies the Dead Sea. Known as one of the most fantastic and outstanding areas of natural beauty in the world. It is the lowest body of water on earth as well as the lowest point anywhere on earth. It also has accumulated, over many thousands of years, rich mineral salts that many bath in all year round. To visit the Dead Sea from Amman you will take a 30-minute drive through some beautiful hills and landscape before reaching a sign indicating the sea level. However, you will have not reached the Dead Sea yet. First, you will have to descend a further 400 metres below here before finally reaching it. When visiting, most of the time it is as flat as a millpond however some days it can become a little wavier. Although most of the time it is a flat extent of water, with snow like deposits of salt around and the sun beating down on it. If visiting at sunset, you will see slits of fire lit water lighting up part of the sea which gives you a surreal feeling. Swimming here is a whole new experience to anywhere else. Upon entering you will float effortlessly due to the 4 times more salt content than the normal ocean, which will keep you afloat whilst you swim or even lie and read a newspaper. This experience makes the Dead Sea an unforgettable place to visit with nothing else like it in the world.
